ORCHESTRATOR, ARRANGER & MUSIC PREPARATION
I studied composition, arranging and orchestration at university before undertaking postgraduate and doctoral degrees in composing and arranging at the University of Aberdeen, having been awarded a university Carlaw-Ogston scholarship. I also hold the Associateship of London College of Music and Media (ALCM) in composition with merit, and a Diploma in Composing and Arranging (DipMusComp) from the Independent Contemporary Music Awards (ICMA) with upper distinction.
I also spent two years as a cathedral music and liturgy administrator, creating orders of service, music lists, notice sheets and other important documents. The experience from this post and my composition studies combine in my work formatting and presenting scores professionally, as is a requirement of postgraduate composition degrees. I have been using the Sibelius line of music production software for many years, and am proficient in MS Office, Publisher and other packages. I offer music preparation services to professionally format and publish your scores.
I started arranging at school, and spent many years in church and cathedral music, where I produced many liturgical compositions and arrangements. I then held a composer-in-residence position at a major parish church. Having moved away from composing as a primary activity, the majority of my work is currently either arranging music for male voice choir, or reducing larger choral-orchestral works for smaller forces so that they can be performed with lower costs and better musical balance. Music can be purchased through the scores page of this website.
My MMus and PhD supervisors were Professor Paul Mealor and Professor Phillip Cooke. I have studied musical theatre arranging on Larry Blank's orchestration course.
